I will, however, certify that Bokurano is going to be awesome. Any unrecognizable references are ADTRW jokes.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>I&#8217;ve boldfaced the titles I deem &#8220;important,&#8221; and I fully expect the best show to be something I&#8217;ve completely neglected here.  As usual, all information is from <a href=\"http:\/\/moonphase.cc\/Html\/anime.html\">Moon Phase<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/fansub.andrewlb.com\/pukiwiki.php\">PukiWiki<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/\">ANN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>By the numbers<\/b><br \/>\nShows starting in April: 43, give or take<br \/>\nMecha shows: 7 (includes Bokurano and Idolmaster)<br \/>\nShows featuring girls with swords: 7 (not including Murder Princess and the Shana movie)<br \/>\nProduction I.G. shows: 3<br \/>\nMadhouse shows: 5<br \/>\nGonzo shows: 4<br \/>\nBones shows: 2<br \/>\nSunrise shows: 1 (it&#8217;s Idolmaster)<\/p>\n<p><b>Dates confirmed until they&#8217;re delayed:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>3\/3 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reideen.jp\/\">Reideen<\/a> &#8211; Production I.G. remakes the classic mecha anime.<\/p>\n<p>3\/3 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moonlightmile.jp\/\">Moonlight Mile<\/a> &#8211; probably not a weekly TV show. It&#8217;s episode 4, anyway.<\/p>\n<p>3\/28 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hitohira.tv\/\">Hitohira<\/a> &#8211; Ayako Kawasumi as the main character&#8217;s best friend in a show full of schoolgirls.<\/p>\n<p>3\/&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ktai-s.net\/\">Keitai Shoujo<\/a> &#8211; Yes, that means &#8220;Cellphone Girl.&#8221;  Directed by the director of Happy Seven.<\/p>\n<p>4\/1 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gurren-lagann.net\/\"><b>Tengen Toppa Gurren-Laggan<\/b><\/a> &#8211; Delayed from January.  Gainax&#8217;s giant sunglasses mecha show.<\/p>\n<p>4\/1 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gegege.jp\/\">GeGeGe no Kitarou<\/a> &#8211; As previously mentioned, only actual Japanese people care about this.<\/p>\n<p>4\/1 <a href=\"http:\/\/websunday.net\/rensai\/set_hayate.html\">Hayate the Combat Butler<\/a> &#8211; Adapted from the moderately popular manga.  PenguinMan reports: &#8220;More comedy than fanservice. Most of the fanservice in it was on the chapter title pages. The rest is all rapid-fire Muteki Kanban Musume-like gags. Also, they actually made cross-dressing funny.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>4\/1 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.starchild.co.jp\/special\/heroicage\/\">Heroic Age<\/a> &#8211; Well I never, Hisashi Hirai character designs in a mecha show.  By Xebec.  Much to my dismay, the main character&#8217;s name really is &#8220;Age,&#8221; not the verb that means &#8220;to bump a thread on 2ch.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>4\/1 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.setonohanayome.com\">Seto no Hanayome<\/a> &#8211; The ANN summarizes the manga thusly: &#8220;A young boy gets saved from drowning by a mermaid but, according to mermaid law, if a human sees a mermaid&#8217;s true form, both have to be killed. The only solution to the problem is for him to marry her.&#8221;  Gonzo&#8217;s involved somehow.  Halko Momoi as the mermaid.<\/p>\n<p>4\/2 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles &#8211; No website, and probably for good reason.  For all I know they&#8217;re just broadcasting one of the American series.<\/p>\n<p>4\/2 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elcazador.tv\/\">El Cazador de la Bruja<\/a> &#8211; Name means &#8220;Witch Hunter&#8221; in Spanish.  Bee Train (with Yuki Kajiura) does some western-themed fantasy adventure thing.  In a surprising twist, it&#8217;s a Bee Train show about a duo of women searching for something.<\/p>\n<p>4\/3 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.j-claymore.com\/\">Claymore<\/a> &#8211; Madhouse adapts this manga, which is a action fantasy about women with swords.  Looks highbrow enough to compete with Production I.G.&#8217;s show about well-armed women; whether it actually can compete is another story.<\/p>\n<p>4\/4 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gigantic-f.com\/\">Gigantic Formula<\/a> &#8211; In case you forgot from the winter thread, this is a mecha show where each mecha is designed by a different person, to represent a different country.  Then they fight or something.<\/p>\n<p>4\/5 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bakugan.com\/\">Bakugan Battle Brawlers<\/a> &#8211; Some silly show to promote toys, move along.<\/p>\n<p>4\/5 <a href=\"http:\/\/jeeg.tv\/\">Kotetsu Shin Jeeg<\/a> &#8211; Remake\/sequel of the classic Go Nagai anime.<\/p>\n<p>4\/6 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.broccoli.co.jp\/sp\/karin\/\">Kami-chama Karin<\/a> &#8211; Extremely saccharine name, extremely saccharine characters, based on an extremely saccharine manga.  Doesn&#8217;t Satelight have better things to do, like, oh, the Hellsing OVA?<\/p>\n<p>4\/7 <a href=\"http:\/\/www3.nhk.or.jp\/anime\/emily\/\">Emily of New Moon<\/a> &#8211; Wholesome entertainment based on a novel by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lucy_Maud_Montgomery\">Lucy Maud Montgomery<\/a>, who wrote <i>Anne of Green Gables<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>4\/7 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moribito.com\/\"><b>Guardian of the Sacred Spirit<\/b><\/a> &#8211; The production team that made GITS:SAC does something completely different.  Looks like a girl with a spear in a Chinese-flavored historical fantasy.<\/p>\n<p>4\/7 <a href=\"http:\/\/www3.nhk.or.jp\/anime\/saiunkoku\/\">Saiunkoku Monogatari<\/a> &#8211; Another season.  Last I checked, the fansubbers haven&#8217;t finished the first one.<\/p>\n<p>4\/7 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bluedragon.tv\/\">Blue Dragon<\/a> &#8211; This anime brought to you by Microsoft.  And Akira Toriyama.  I don&#8217;t expect great things.<\/p>\n<p>4\/7 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sunrise-inc.co.jp\/keroro\/\">Keroro Gunsou<\/a> &#8211; this frog don&#8217;t stop<\/p>\n<p>4\/12 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oofuri.com\/\">Ookiku Furikabutte<\/a> &#8211; Baseball.<\/p>\n<p>4\/12 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tbs.co.jp\/anime\/kaibutsu\/\">Princess Resurrection<\/a> &#8211; An anime about Go-go Yubari?  OK, I don&#8217;t know.  That&#8217;s what the website looks like.  Another Madhouse manga adaptation.  If it&#8217;s anything like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/thumbnails\/200x200\/encyc\/A7110-3.jpg\">this image<\/a>, I&#8217;m all in favor of it.<\/p>\n<p>4\/14 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tv-tokyo.co.jp\/anime\/spiderriders\/\">Spider Riders<\/a> &#8211; Nobody watches this, seriously<\/p>\n<p>4\/15 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aika-sumeragi.jp\/\">Agent Aika &#8211; Virgin Mission<\/a> &#8211; pantyshots<\/p>\n<p>4\/28 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.skullman.jp\/\"><b>The Skullman<\/b><\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/encyclopedia\/people.php?id=27\">Takeshi Mori<\/a> and Bones (!) adapt a manga from the creator of Kamen Rider.<\/p>\n<p><b>Sometime in April:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.avexmovie.jp\/lineup\/wellber\/\">Sisters of Wellber<\/a> &#8211; Period drama.  Production I.G. is involved, but the ANN says that &#8220;Trans Arts Co.&#8221; is doing the animation.  I don&#8217;t think Production I.G. actually has enough staff to do Reideen, Girl With Spear, and this, all at the same time.  We&#8217;ll see.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bokurano.jp\/\"><b>Bokurano<\/b><\/a> &#8211; Stay with me here &#8211; This is a mecha show, based on a manga from the creator of <i>Narutaru<\/i>, animated by <i>Gonzo<\/i>, but the director, character designer, and music composer are all straight out of <i>Studio Ghibli.<\/i>  As for the plot, it has a lot of kids that will probably all end up dead.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sugarbunnies.jp\/\">Sugar Bunnies<\/a> &#8211; No, it&#8217;s not a horrible harem show, it&#8217;s just promoting some stuffed animal merchandise.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.starchild.co.jp\/special\/airantou\/\">Nagasarete Airantou<\/a> &#8211; This is the horrible harem show.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.polyphonica.tv\/\">Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica<\/a> &#8211; Adaptation of an h-game from the creator of Scrapped Princess, I believe.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.d-black.net\/\">Darker Than Black<\/a> &#8211; Both Bones shows have really silly names.  This one has Yoko Kanno!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/terra-e.com\/\">Towards the Terra<\/a> &#8211; Adaptation of an old sci-fi manga.  The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/encyclopedia\/anime.php?id=1407\">plot<\/a> sounds a bit dated.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.romejuli.jp\/\"><b>Romeo &#038; Juliet<\/b><\/a> &#8211; Gonzo realized that Gankutsuou was successful, so they&#8217;re doing it again.  A few things to keep in mind: none of the Gankutsuou team is working on this, and there really isn&#8217;t enough material in the play for a 20+ episode TV show.  Juliet has a sword, though.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.toei-anim.co.jp\/tv\/lovecom\/\">Lovely Complex<\/a> &#8211; Romantic comedy manga has already been adapted into a live-action movie.  Alert: Toei Animation.<\/p>\n<p>Ooedo Rocket &#8211; No website, but the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/encyclopedia\/anime.php?id=7631\">ANN says<\/a> that it&#8217;s by Madhouse, and directed by the director of FMA.  Other than that I know nothing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nanoha.com\/\"><b>Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS<\/b><\/a> &#8211; 26 more episodes of STAND BY READY.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.comptiq.com\/event\/luckystar\/\"><b>Lucky Star<\/b><\/a> &#8211; Kyoto Animation adapts a 4-panel comic strip about a bunch of girls in high school.  It&#8217;s not Haruhi, and it probably won&#8217;t be Azumanga Daioh, either. MrVacBob said &#8220;sort of like a moe Genshiken.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sunrise-inc.co.jp\/idolmaster\/\">Idolm@aster Xenoglossia<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insertcredit.com\/reviews\/idolmaster\/\">fnord<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gonzo.co.jp\/works\/0705.html\">Kaze no Stigma<\/a> &#8211; Gonzo makes something that looks really generic.  That chick sure does have a flaming sword!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sola-project.com\/\">Sola<\/a> &#8211; I honestly have no idea, the website is strikingly uninformative.  It has Mamiko Noto and Mai Nakahara in lead roles, though.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saintbeast.com\/\">Saint Beast: Kouin Jojishi Tenshi Tan<\/a> &#8211; A prequel to some show that ran in 2003, with a lot of bishounen.  One of the dudes has heterochromia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/shining-tears.jp\/\">Shining Tears<\/a> &#8211; Based on some PS2 fantasy RPG, with character designs by internet superstar Tony Taka.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.avexmovie.jp\/lineup\/momotsuki\/\">Touka Gettan<\/a> &#8211; Harem, based loosely on actual hentai.  I guess that&#8217;s sort of like how the Mezzo TV show was based on Mezzo Forte.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.web-giga.com\/aozora\/aozora.htm\">Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo<\/a> &#8211; Some dating sim thing.  For some reason the website has a webcomic on it.<\/p>\n<p>OverDrive &#8211; Some sports thing, but I can&#8217;t actually tell what sport it is.  Maybe boxing or something.  Pity it isn&#8217;t [url]http:\/\/danbooru.donmai.us\/post\/view\/91177<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emma-victorian.com\/\">Victorian Romance Emma<\/a> &#8211; Another season!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.koutetsu-sangokushi.jp\/\">Kotetsu Sangokushi<\/a> &#8211; &#8220;Sangokushi&#8221; means Romance of the Three Kingdoms, I think, but that male lead seems to have the super-arm thing from Scryed.  Fancy costumes.<\/p>\n<p><b>Sometime in May:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tokuma.jp\/coil\/\">Dennou Coil<\/a> &#8211; Looks like a weird drama from Madhouse about a bunch of kids.  Originally slated to be a movie, now it&#8217;s a TV show, :psyduck:<\/p>\n<p><b>Sometime in Spring:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dmc-tv.com\/\">Devil May Cry<\/a> &#8211; Yeah, this is a good idea.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tetsuko.jp\/\">Tetsuko&#8217;s Trip<\/a> &#8211; Looks weird.  We&#8217;ll never see raws of it.<br \/>\nWangan Midnight &#8211; No website, but it&#8217;s basically Initial D.  Kaji or someone can talk about why it&#8217;ll be great.
