If you’ve been to Anime Expo in the last two years, you might have seen the Vocaloid panel “The Sound of the Future”, by Masaki. (If not, you should go next year.)

This year kransom and I (plus mdl and stephieku) helped run the panel and did song translations. We still ended up an hour late, since the previous panel had way more corporate sponsorship, but here’s the playlist.

Most of these links are to the unsubtitled versions, since I forgot to ask if we could upload the translations, so contact us or watch this space if you’d like them. But you should watch them anyway!

1. honey and clover club by yuuyu and baker, video by nagimiso

2. Aku no Musume Trilogy by nazyo, NazekorewoP, Yuuki

3. DYE/Re:reflection+ by Treow, remixed by AVTechNO, video by heki

4. Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya! by daniwell, and the MMD version

5. Rondo of possible world by millstones, video by masataka

6. Strobe last by Powapowa, video by masataka

This one’s translated!

7. Sweet Devil and Electric Love by HachioujiP, video by wakamuraP

9. Memories (unfinished video) by SmileR, video by wakamuraP

10. Innocent girl feat. Kaai Yuki (international edit) by KagomeP and rlldi

I have no idea what this video is about.

11. Ameyumerou by HitoshizukuP and Suzunosuke

12. Flower Tail by yuukiss and 25 KAITOs

13. My world by KuchibashiP

(not actually related to the next song)

14. World is Mine video (unfinished) by Sadamasa Shiika

15. Last night, good night by kz/livetune

Finally, there were three new songs presented by the special guest producers:

1. Galapagos by Penguins Project
You can find the English introduction at his blog.

2. The Socialist by ZANEEDS
Japanese title: “What if Kagamine Rin read Marx’s ‘Das Kapital’”?

3. Boring Bowling by SunzriverP
It’s a song about bowling, because Americans love bowling. No translation just yet.

My AX report is that instead of Day 4, I went to the beach. I recommend you do the same!
Photos (featuring several returning stars) can be found here or on the sidebar —>

Yunakiti reports the 2ch thread reporting on the VIP thread about finding these two pages detailing release info on the Haruhi-chan and Churuya-san dvds. The first page notes that the DVD will be 40 minutes long and has the release date down as 4/24, while the second link says that there will be 3 dvds in all. Do be warned that both sources are from DVD rental sites, which could mean that the information isn’t totally accurate. Or maybe just made up, who knows. (comedy kadokawa trolling option.) Anyway what do you guys think a fair over/under on the price/dvd would be, 5000y?

In other news, Supercell is officially released today, though it was readily found in otaku B+Ms around the country yesterday. This is what I get for not going outside yesterday! Also, preorders for the Goodsmile Black Rock Shooter figure have opened, at the low price of 9800y, release in August. Interview with huke can be found here, and a new commercial/PV for it by huke can be found here. “Brack Rock Shooter” indeed.

edit an hour later: two other interesting links I came across that don’t quite deserve yet another news post on the same day:

new IOSYS / Tetla Pot PV for another track (The Ultimate Yakiniku Restaurant! Orin’s Store of Hell!) off of Touhou Chotto Matten. First was this pv. Unfortunately, I don’t see either of these becoming memes.

Also, the To LOVEru*LOVE blog points out some amusing facts about the new Bakuman cover.

1/5 Ruins the music
by Teriyaki
How did the planning side think up this nonsensical compilation…
I’m not going to say I know everything about punk, but as a punk fan I can only see this as making a fool of it.
It’s blasphemy to this famous music. And I can’t help but laugh at the ridiculous cover art.

2 of 4 people found the following review helpful:

5/5 I don’t know much about Western music but I like it
by Ukyo UP DATE

Even though so many famous songs have been covered here, someone like me who doesn’t know much about punk could still listen to all of them and think “oh, yeah, I know that song!”, so those who usually avoid Western music can rest easy.
Because of the daring arrangement of the melody and vocals, even if you’re tired of hearing them at karaoke, it’s like a whole new song.
It’s not that the vocals are interesting just because the use of anime voices makes it cute and POP[1]; because of the singers’ long career experience, you feel like you can hear the charm and sadness in their voices.
I liked the solos “Call Me” and “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.
This might be a bad comparison, but it’s like when enka and pop music were combined to make New Music.
It might be more appreciated in the future and seen as a symbol of a new music scene; maybe we could buy it as a keepsake for then? :)

(thanks to cheese for explaining japanese to me)

[1] I have no idea what this means
