Update on a previous post about Haruhi-chan dvds: the rental sites appeared to have been correct, as yunakiti notes that there are three (1, 2, 3) pages up on animate for Haruhi-chan/Churuya-san dvds coming out about every 4-5 weeks, starting in the end of May. How much for 40 minutes animation that’s been streamed for free on the internet? 5040 yen a dvd. I put my line at 5000y, maybe I should open an anime sportsbook or something.

Also, this is probably on every site by now since Itai News posted it like 4 hours ago, but there was a one-day cafe event, Cafe B’s Prince, that took place today where the waitresses (waiters?) played the part of your younger brother. Girls pretending to be boys calling you “onii-chan”, truly this is the highest class of moe. Well, it’s aimed primarily towards girls, so I guess “onee-chan”.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t in Tokyo for the falling of the curtain, but the best cafe in Akiba, Schatzkiste had an event today for the end of the store as we currently know it. Though I only caught the tail end of its existence, the 9 maids who have been all working there since the store’s opening managed to create a wonderful space that opened my eyes to what a good maid cafe can be like and restored my hope in Akiba. There’s a very nice writeup of the cafe by a mysterious man here which I don’t have a whole lot more to add to, other than my confident hopes that chapter 2, starting on the fifth of next month, will be every bit as inviting, relaxing, and perfectly fitted to Akiba as the first. Maybe it’ll be a bit bigger, too :)

If you have any memories of the place, please feel free to share them in the comments.

The Hiroshima Financial Times reports the opening of a brand new branch of Hiroshima’s Maypretty maid cafe, this one for “novice otaku” (オタク初心者). Located near Hiroshima station, they claim to have toned down the overall otaku-ness of the place, opting for calm, white walls and regular music and soundtracks as opposed to the main Ootemachi branch’s pink palette and anime songs. The menu features maid cafe staples such as omelettes with ketchup drawings on them and oversized cokes. Their blog can be found here.

I guess trying to attract new blood is good and all, considering the recent maid cafe mass extinctions, but I’ll stick to Schatzkiste. Oh wait, they close in 10 days ;__; On the other hand, I’m going to Hiroshima on a school trip in a few weeks, this might call for some maidbloggin’!
